Throughout the month of September and October I will be participating in a fundraiser for Autism, called the “Walk Now for Autism Speaks”, held in Columbus, Ohio. I will be walking in memory of Marinke Slump, an amazing crochet designer who made intricate designs called mandalas.
She suffered from chronic depression and was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, a form of autism. She was a very well respected designer and brought the mandala into the spotlight for crocheters across the globe. Unfortunately this past June, depression took Marinke away from her family and the crochet community.
Leading up to and during the Columbus Autism Walk, I will be Active Crocheting (walking + crocheting at the same time) Mandalas for the #MandalasForMarinke crochet project as well as raising funds for the Autism Speaks Columbus, Ohio event. Please visit my personal walker page if you would like to find out more about the forms of Autism or to help me in reaching my goal.
