Winter is Coming…. Holiday Gift finishing marathon

I hope some of you can relate: I am hurrying to finish my way too optimistic number of homemade gifts this holiday season. I’ve got about 3/4 of them made, and I’d like to share them with you in the next couple of weeks–because heavens knows my family and friends don’t know I blog, haha.

I just finished this about twenty minutes ago and I’m super elated! It’s been an entire year in the making, all of the patterns I made with the 2015 Block-a-Month Crochet-A-Long group on Ravelry. The owner to be: my parents.

I would consider these colors a bit tacky in my own home, not really my color scheme, but I know my mother will love them. Her living area is made for this afghan! The walls are the golden color and she just recently put up a long quilt shelf that is just begging for this and she doesn’t even know it yet! Her favorite color is purple and I am sure she is going to love it and use it every day to snuggle with. It’s quite heavy and dense in some areas and is 100% washable, which is really necessary with multiple pets and grandkids hanging around. I’m really pleased with how this one turned out. I just need to block it a little bit and then get a better picture of it in the daylight.

Next up is a huge project I dubbed “Three in one month.” I completed three lace knit shawls in less than 30 days. WHEW! My fingers were numb! I plan to give these out to the ladies in my darling boyfriend’s family, two sisters and his mother (sorry for the shoddy photos. I need better camera and lighting!)

First up, the Traveling Woman for Sister #1 in Malabrigo Mechita.

This was my first ever knit lace shawl and I learned a lot. I took a class at a local yarn studio to learn how to read the patterns and I learned a lot about knitting in those six hours. You can see the colors better on some of the other photos on the >> Project Page.

Next is the Kalamata Redux Kerchief for his mother with Malabrigo Mecha.

The name you ask? The color of the yarn reminds me of Kalamata olives and I tried to make a shawl before taking the class so I frogged the original and made this out of it. Definitely much better! Very easy and repetitive pattern for a chunky yarn weight. It also has really nice gold/topaz beads along the edges–you can see the detail on my >> Project Page .

 

Finally, I made this lovely DustStorm for sister #2 in Malabrigo Mechita.

What?! Of course I had to try it on and wear it! I mean, I wanted to make sure it was usable as a shawl 😉 Good thing too, cause I re-washed and blocked it to make it perfect after the initial run. I really love this one…. I am going to have a hard time giving it away. >>Project Page

Alright… I’ll save some of the others for later, I still have about 4 WIP’s going on and I need to finish them!!
